Vice President, Director of Sales & Marketing
Clay has spent his career building lasting relationships in the transportation industry. He grew up in this business, and quickly grew passionate. Clay spent high school spring and summer breaks working at Streamline, laying a foundation of knowledge, skills and expertise from which he has continued to develop and draw on throughout his career.
While studying communications at the University of Arizona, Clay challenged himself and diversified his work experience by taking a job at Yellow Freight System, Inc. in Tucson. After hitting the books hard all day, he worked nights as a biller and learned a completely different freight management system, that of a common carrier. Whereas Streamline was a consolidator, Yellow Freight was a breakbulk. Clay additionally volunteered to cover for teammates during holidays and vacation to learn dispatch, OS&D, dock operations, and inbound and outbound operations. It was Clay’s years of experience at Yellow Freight that not only cemented his skill level in freight and transport, but also built his confidence and love of the transportation business. From there, Clay accelerated.
By 2000 he moved back to Los Angeles and entered into Streamline’s management training program. For one year Clay moved from department to department, spending between three to six weeks learning each area of the business intimately: office and finance, dock work, driver roles and responsibilities, and more. He began his domestic LTL sales career in the San Fernando Valley, and rapidly expanded to international sales and services. Within a few short years Clay assumed a greater leadership role as national accounts manager including business development, which took him all over the country.
Clay took on the dual vice president and director of sales & marketing roles in 2006, and has loved every minute of his time spent solidifying existing client relationships, cultivating new friendships, learning about different cultures, growing the business and impacting Streamline’s bottom line.
Apart from his commitment to Streamline, his love of his family, and a strong belief in work-life balance, Clay is active within his community. He serves on his local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), which educates and trains community members on disaster preparedness.
